ABOUT QUITE THE STIR

We invite you to step back in time to Quite The Stir Bungalow Vintage Guest House.  Here you'll capture the nostalgia of coming home to the 1930s and the 1940s.  Revel in a time when the Great Depression and Dust Bowl had ended and where all of America cast a hopeful, expectant look toward the future!

Quite The Stir Bungalow is located on the historic west side of Gettysburg, PA on the corner of West Middle Street and Howard Avenue.  Just four blocks from Gettysburg's downtown and one block from the historic Battlefield near the North Carolina Monument.

Gettysburg, steeped in historical treasures and events, is well known for its part in the turning point of the Civil War.  Gettysburg was also the home of the former President Dwight David Eisenhower and his wife and former First Lady, Mamie Eisenhower.

Stepping back to the 1940s, we'll find that General Eisenhower was the Supreme Allied Commander during Quite The Stir Bungalow's early years.  On the domestic front, the average cost of a new home was $3,920.00 and the average cost of renting a home was $30 a month.  The 'Average Joe' earned wages of $1,725.00 per years.  A gallon of gas was 'oh so fine' at 11 cents per gallon.  Riding around town with your sweetheart in a new 'jalopy'  would spring you for $840 worth of  precious Greenbacks.  Around the house, modern times were kicking in...gone were grandma's rug beaters and here to stay were the spanking brand new fangled Hoover vacuums that set American housewives on their ears at $52.50 a pop!  On the fashion front, attitude was in full vogue!  Nylon stockings went on sale and in 1946, bikinis hit the market...big and how!

To while away the hours, the decade of the 1940s found the local theatre house playing 'Casa Blanca' and 'Yankee Doodle Dandy' to packed audiences.  Big Bands and nostalgic Glenn Miller songs were blasting the airways.  'White Christmas made its debut.

What swell decades!  Now Quite The Stir Bungalow brings those times home for our guests to enjoy...once again!
